Journal on Sound

fragments, notes, sounds and observations.

Recording the silence of the early-early morning commute: I plan to recording my early morning commute to work, at 2 am, with my LOM Basic-ucho and the LOM Geofon that I am lucky enough to be borrowing at the moment. I will be recording the sounds of the metro and bus on my way to work, and since there will most likely be nobody outside at this hour in Copenhagen, I hope to record a different ambience than what you would normally hear in Copenhagen.
Some of what I have noticed before when taking this very early hour commutes, is that the majority of people outside are either A: Service workers, such as cleaning crews and trashmen. And B: people that are also goin to work or home and this strange hour. The feeling in Copenhagen really changes though at this time, really is something that I feel more people should try and experience.

Recording the upper class.

Thinking about all of the possibilities of sampling the sounds around me. Making eco-systems of sounds from one location, one time, one moment. What would be possible with by resampling one singular moment and space, would the meaning change behind the creations done with these samples every time you make a new piece of work with it? Or would there always be some base meaning/emotion rooted in the work made of these sound?

Recording with GEOFON: Gives you a real sense of awe and wonder of the machinery, and the almost unheard bass sounds that are all around us. Is this what different animals here, everytime they go on a boat?
I also need to experiment more with pitching up the samples of the GEOFON. The sounds really come to life when they are tuned up by an octave.

I love the opportunity given to me by staff at higher education establishments. I love the abbility to ask and meet all of these people that are in the conservatories in Copenhagen, even though I am not a student at any of these schools. And to be trusted enough to be able to borrow a GEOFON just for my own experiments, and maybe an opportunity to get my songs/work onto The Lake Radio, really excites me.
